Boston is about to turn green again.
Wicked returns to the Citizens Opera House this Wednesday, September 23, kicking off an almost two-month run downtown.
The first performance is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The touring production stays in Boston through November 15, with performances scheduled most weeks from Tuesday through Sunday.
If somehow you have avoided the story for the past two decades, Wicked takes the world of The Wizard of Oz and rewinds it to before Dorothy arrives.
The story follows Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda before they become the characters everyone knows.
What begins as a rivalry develops into a friendship and eventually collides with the politics and power structures of Oz.
Wicked is now the fourth-longest-running show in Broadway history, and Boston is getting nearly eight weeks of performances this fall.
And because the Citizens Opera House is right in Downtown Crossing, this one is easy to turn into a full night out without leaving downtown.
Opening week includes performances Wednesday night, two shows Thursday, a Friday night performance and both afternoon and evening options across the weekend.
So if opening night does not fit your schedule, there are plenty of chances ahead.
