Flying out of Logan this fall? Maybe give yourself a little extra buffer.
Starting August 31, Logan Airport will close Runway 9-27 for roughly 75 days as Massport completes the second phase of a major runway safety project. The runway will have only very limited availability during construction.
For passengers, the airport stays open and flights keep moving. The problem is capacity. With one runway largely out of the rotation, bad weather or a busy travel day gives Logan fewer options to keep everything flowing.
That means delays could become more likely when the airport is already under pressure. Communities around Logan may also notice aircraft using different flight paths more often while the work is underway.
The project is expected to run deep into the fall.
So no, your October flight isn’t automatically cooked. But this probably isn’t the season to show up at Logan 45 minutes before departure and hope for main-character luck.
