You don’t need a rooftop reservation and a $19 cocktail to get a solid Boston sunset.
Start with the Charles River Esplanade. It’s central, easy to reach from multiple T stops, and gives you river and skyline views — plus sailboats when they’re out.
For more open space, Castle Island gives you harbor views, a long waterfront walk and, depending on flight patterns, planes approaching Logan. Getting there by transit takes a little more effort, but it’s doable without a car.
Then there’s Jamaica Pond, one of the quieter options when you want to leave downtown energy behind for a minute. Grab something to eat, walk the pond and find a spot before the light starts changing.
For one of the best skyline angles, head across the harbor to Piers Park in East Boston. Downtown Boston sits directly across the water, and the park is a short walk from Maverick on the Blue Line.
The move: check the day’s sunset time, grab food before you go and arrive 30–45 minutes early.
One thing to know: DCR lists the Esplanade and Castle Island as open from sunrise to sunset, so plan to head out once the sun goes down. And if you’re taking the T, check current MBTA service alerts before leaving.
