Whether you’re leaving a game, visiting the Common or just looking for a proper lunch downtown, you have options beyond another fast-food stop. These four spots offer different trade-offs: chef-created sandwiches, loaded Italian schiacciata, and more affordable café sandwiches — all within walking distance of Boston Common.
For a sit-down meal: Parish Cafe
At 361 Boylston St., Parish Cafe is the choice when you want a sandwich to be the main event, not a quick snack. Its concept is built around sandwiches created by local chefs and named for the chefs and restaurants behind them.
The current menu includes options such as the Coronation Chickpea Sandwich for $23.95 and the Le Mistral beef tenderloin sandwich for $28.95. It’s a more expensive lunch, but you get a full-service restaurant with indoor seating and seasonal outdoor dining.
Parish opens at 11:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Check the current menu before choosing your order.
For a loaded Italian sandwich: All’Antico Vinaio
If you’re after a generously filled Italian sandwich, head to All’Antico Vinaio on Boylston Street, a short walk from the Common.
The menu includes the La Favolosa ($21), with Tuscan salami, pecorino cream, artichoke cream and spicy eggplant, and the La Paradiso ($19), made with mortadella, stracciatella and pistachio cream.
It’s one of the pricier grab-and-go options, but the menu has plenty of variety. Both Boston locations are open daily, including weekends; the Boylston Street shop’s posted hours are 10:30 a.m.–8 p.m. See the official menu and hours.
For a park-friendly lunch: Flour Bakery
Flour’s Boston Common location is especially convenient if you want to take lunch outside when the weather cooperates. Its menu includes a hummus sandwich for $13.75, a smoked chicken salad sandwich for $13.75, and a roast beef sandwich for $14.50.
Order to go and find a spot in the park, or check whether the patio is operating when you visit. The current menu has the latest sandwich options.
For a lighter budget: The Thinking Cup
At 165 Tremont St., The Thinking Cup is another convenient stop near the Common. Its sandwich menu includes options such as the Jimmy the Greek — hummus, artichokes, olives, tomato, mushrooms and goat cheese — for $11.50.
It’s a useful choice if you want a café stop rather than a full restaurant meal. The Boston Common location is open daily from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Check the official site for its current menu.
Which should you choose?
For a leisurely lunch, go to Parish. For a rich Italian sandwich, try All’Antico Vinaio. If you’re planning to eat outdoors, Flour is the most convenient option, while The Thinking Cup offers the lowest listed sandwich price of these four.
